Barry, our co-producer, is an old hippy and former Greenpeace activist. An expert hand rendered letterform artist, he designed all of the on screen graphics, packaging, tattoos and signage . He also brought some pretty cool vehicles to the film including a motorcycle and the Airstream trailer that he lived in back in the sixties. We rewrote the script and added new scenes to incorporate these new props.

Laura shivers in the early morning air as we load the the boats with supplies and prepare to cross the lake to our campsite on crown land. We kept a motorboat and canoe chained to a tree at the public boat launch. Camera batteries were charged overnight by draining juice from the boat batteries.

Chapter Three: Bancroft and the tar paper shack

ShackBancroft_133
On set – Bancroft, Ontario
After one of our Toronto casting sessions, a young actor named Elroy Jelinek casually mentioned that his parents owned some property up north with an old dilapidated shack on it. When he sent us the photos we freaked and immediately organized a location scouting trip. The old tar paper shack was filled with junk which we cleared out and moved into a nearby storage trailer. There were three separate rooms and we rewrote the script to incorporate these amazing new sets. Just up the hill here were two large trailers for us to sleep in. A smaller trailer was outfitted with some supplies from a science store and became Pa’s meth trailer. Also on the property was a swamp and a hunting stand which were both written into the script.
